The Pit and the Passion

She held her gaze steady, mainly so she could delve deep, deep into those chocolate eyes. Together with his sharp, angular nose and intense, almost predatory, expression, he reminded her of a peregrine falcon on the hunt.

Welcome Kenzie Michaels & NiKoh's Chosen

Welcome Kenzie Michaels! I know you’re going to tell us about NiKoh’s Chosen, the sequel to your wonderful sci-fi erotic romance Heart’s Last Chance, but will you first bring us up to speed on the story behind it? Thanks!

The Story Behind NiKoh’s Chosen

Have you ever read a story and wondered how the author came up with the idea?  Let me tell you, I never thought I would write Sci-Fi Romance, because a) I tried to write my own ending to Star Wars in the 9th grade and failed miserably; and b) description is my weak point!

If you’ve already heard the story of how Heart’s Last Chance came about, bear with me; this is brief recap for those who haven’t heard the story. Back in 2002, Brock and Tricia met, spent the night together, and everything was going well when all of a sudden, Brock uttered those dreaded words:

“I’m not exactly from Earth.”

*needle scratch*  Say WHAT?

I put it away for ten years.  Then pulled it out and thought I’d see where it would go.  After two title changes, it released September 2014 and everyone loves it.
I’d tentatively written the first four chapters of NiKoh’s story, Brock’s older brother, but he didn’t like the direction I was taking him, and refused to speak to me.  A tiny problem occurred:  I’d pitched Brock and Tricia’s story with the idea of four sequels, and already had release dates lined up.  When NiKoh refused to speak to me, little sister Kira started telling me her story and wouldn’t shut up until it was written.  What’s the problem?  Her book is #4 in the series.

Finally, NiKoh decided he’d been upstaged enough and I was able to write his story.  I think you’ll like the direction this saga is going, and NiKoh has already had his first favorable review.

In addition, Brock’s story, Heart’s Last Chance, has been nominated in the LRC Best Of Awards, for Best Sci-Fi/Futuristic Romance of 2014.  If you’ll ‘like’ my author page on Facebook (link at bottom of this post), I’ll keep you apprised of the voting link and ultimately, the results.  I’m hoping to place well!

Secret Cravings Publishing (April 13, 2015)
Book #2, The Chosen series
Sci-Fi Romance; Erotic (4 flames)
50,000 words

Still mourning the tragic death of his beautiful mate, could another Chosen one already be waiting for NiKoh SiLah? To avoid what he’s not ready to accept, he throws himself into his work at Planet Security.

Leaving the Academy behind to follow her dream of working with animals, GiNae SoJae returns home. Preoccupied with work and not ready to take a mate, she’s horrified when her body enters Maturity. GiNae fights the changes occurring within her. But during nightly dreams she cannot control, an unknown man teaches her the secrets of her body.
Will NiKoh and GiNae succumb to the paths they think have been chosen for them or will they discover the true Chosen life that awaits them?

In this exclusive excerpt, GiNae is not pleased with what she perceives the direction her life is taking and is doing everything within her power to get it to stop.  Unfortunately, she doesn’t understand Maturity can’t be ‘willed away’.  I based some of this on my sister’s determination to never go through puberty, ha ha!

Excerpt (G)
“Your mother was only trying to show her support of you earlier.”

“I know. Thank you for getting her to back off.” The firelight danced across GiNae’s soft features, causing her green eyes to glow. “I’ve spoken with both my friend RaKel and my mother, and there is a way out of this. All you have to do, NiKoh, is go before the elders and ask for a special dispensation, and all this will cease.”

NiKoh tried to remain composed, but her earnestness, along with her determination to stop the inevitable, was too much. He felt the laughter build, no matter how he tried to quell it, but to no avail. “I’m so sorry, GiNae. Forgive me,” he managed before the urge overtook him.

“What is with you? All you do is laugh at me. I’m serious, NiKoh! Won’t anyone take me seriously?” Her rage fueled his laughter, and as she stood to storm off, he lunged, catching her by the arm.

“I’m sorry,” he gasped. “Please, sit. Let me explain.”

“So far, all I understand is I seem to humor you.” She shook free, but sat back down, crossing her arms over her small bosom.

NiKoh coughed, trying to get his laughter under control. “I’m not trying to anger you, really I’m not. It’s just there seems to be a misunderstanding here.”

“My mother is never wrong.”

“You’re right, she isn’t. Let me see if I get this straight. You want me to go before the elders, and get them to agree we aren’t compatible, so you will, what? Stop going through Maturity? Or is there someone else you have your eye on for your Chosen?” NiKoh nearly laughed when he saw the horrified expression on her face.

“You mean…these dreams, visions, whatever, will continue? Even if the dispensation is granted?”

NiKoh shrugged, holding up his hands. “I have no control over my subconscious, and neither do you. The dreams are a part of the Maturity process, GiNae.” He picked up his goblet and sipped.

GiNae stood up. “Great. Just great. So everybody goes through this?”
