Josie and Carson Sandberg are on the cusp of being empty-nesters. With a cross-country move and Carson's busy work schedule, there hasn't been much time to connect. When gifted with a romantic getaway and challenge that says "Surprise Me," the two embark on a trip that reveals secret desires and more. But sometimes a fantasy is better left undiscovered.

Excerpt: The Invitation

“Follow you home?” he asked, calculating in his mind how long it would take before he could get her in bed.
   “I have a better idea.”
“I can’t wait to go home to make love. Let’s go parking.”
Carson swallowed around the lump in his throat. “Parking? That’s for kids. We haven’t gone parking since…”
She chucked him under his chin. “I know. Since high school. But, surprise, I want to go parking.” She tugged on his earlobe. “Fumble in the dark. Sex in the back seat. Steam up the windows.”
Grabbing her hand, he headed for the parking lot. His cock pulsed to the beat of his pounding heart. If this was her idea of how to begin their Surprise Me week, then they were off to a good start. “Whose vehicle?”

Whew! Exciting. Do you have any other books with Wild Rose?

Yes, my full-length erotic romance, South Seas Seduction, was released in March.

About the Author

From the time she was a teenager, Anita would sneak her mother's romances and read them until all hours of the night. She never thought about creating one herself, but fell into it with a few friends. On an over-long road trip, they started talking about their favorite authors and why they like their books. To kill time, they started making up their own characters and plot. From that point on, Anita had story ideas and characters filling her head. Finally, to shut them up, (or so she thought), she started writing them down, surprised at how erotic her characters turned out to be.
Anita Kidesu

Now, in between being a pharmacist, taking care of her two cats, and spending time with her family and friends, she writes. Her stories are about love and romance on the edge. Her first book, South Seas Seduction, an erotica with The Wild Rose Press, was released in March of this year.

Exquisite Christmas, an anthology of 21 authors’ stories and recipes, is still available!
My story, Che Gelida Manina, is a sweet,  romantic story of how love can come a second time around—if you let it.

Grace is devastated by the loss of her husband—the most romantic person she has ever known—and is determined to avoid any contact with the things they had loved. She refuses to walk her beloved beach, or light candles under the stars, or listen to his favorite opera, La Bohème.

When she meets Edward, she insists that he abide by her wishes. He does without argument, but as the weeks go by, she begins to wonder if she's made a mistake. Will she let the chance of an unexpected happiness slip through her fingers? Will Edward?

One of the two recipes of mine you can find in Exquisite Christmas is for Swedish Coffeebread. Adapted from my Swedish mother-in-law’s recipe, it has become a tradition in our house at Christmas, although it’s delicious any time of year. In fact, my daughter made it for the first time this Christmas—using the recipe in Exquisite Christmas!

Here it is:
Swedish Coffeebread

Preparation time: about four hours (three for rising).

2 packages dry yeast (4 ½ teaspoons)
1/3 cup warm water
1 cup milk (2% or more)
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2  teaspoons salt
5 to 5 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs
1 tablespoon cardamom pods
Shortening to grease rising bowl

For the glaze:
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons sugar

You will need a spice grinder, a small cup, a small saucepan, a large mixing bowl, a food mixer or food processor (optional), a large cookie sheet, cooling rack, brush for glaze.
A bread machine is not recommended for this recipe.

1.       Grind cardamom pods very fine.  Set aside.
2.      In a small cup dissolve yeast in the warm water.
3.      Scald milk: heat either in a pot or in the microwave (about 4 minutes) until foam forms on the milk.  Allow to cool slightly.
4.      Combine milk, sugar, butter, and salt in a large bowl. Cool to lukewarm. Stir in 2 cups of the flour. Beat well.
5.      Add eggs. Beat well.
6.      Stir in yeast, cardamom, and remaining flour to make a soft dough.
7.      Knead 8-10 minutes by hand or in mixer (with kneading arm inserted).
8.     Remove dough from machine and place it in a large greased bowl. Cover with oiled wax paper and  set in a warm spot away from drafts. Let rise until doubled in bulk, about 2 hours.
9.      Remove dough from bowl and place on floured board. Punch down and divide into 3 equal parts.  Let rest 10  minutes, covered with a damp kitchen towel.
10.  Take  one of the sections and cut into 3 equal pieces. Roll each piece between your palms until you have a rod about 12 inches long. Lay the three rods side by side. Pinch three ends together, then braid loosely, pinching the opposite ends and folding them under. Repeat with the other 2 sections. Place braids on a greased cookie sheet, cover lightly with wax paper or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in bulk (about 1 hour).
11.   Fifteen minutes before you’re ready to bake, preheat oven to 350º F.
12.  Melt butter and keep warm until you take the bread from the oven.
13.  Bake the loaves for 20 minutes or until golden and you hear a hollow sound when rapped on the bottom.
14.  While still hot, brush the loaves with butter and sprinkle with sugar and any leftover cardamom.

Makes 3 loaves; freezes well.

She loves him, only Calvin resents her. How could she ever say she’s sorry?

Excerpt (G): Pride

“I don’t hate you…I would never hate you. I just wish you had come to me, I would’ve helped you. I would certainly not have seen you out on the street or allowed you to have him adopted.”
“Calvin, please don’t.” Her eyes filled with tears. Her heart ached to his kindness that she really didn’t deserve.
“I want to be here to support you and Kacey.”
Sophie snapped her head to glare at him. “She isn’t yours.” He stared back at her horrified. His lips pressed firmly together, eyes peering harshly at her. She swallowed heavily and could feel her heart being ripped out of her chest. “Sorry,” she managed to say feeling larger knots in her tummy.
“I just want to help you.”
“You don’t need to.”
“I want to. Regardless!”
With that, Calvin stood.
She watched him walk away, heading toward the main building indecisive if to chase after him to explain. So fed-up of allowing her mouth to run away with her, but the truth was Kacey wasn’t his to worry about.
Sophie allowed him to go. She hitched her breath, aching in every limb.

A New Beginning or a Life Stuck in the Past? New Romance from Vikki Vaught-McCombie

Welcome to Tale Spinner, Vikki! We had the pleasure of hearing about your wonderful historical romance, Lady Overton’s Perilous Journey (Book 1 of the Honorable Rogue series) back in August. And now you’re back with a new story—this time I understand it’s a sweet military contemporary romance. Tell us about it!

Thanks for having me, M. S.
A New Beginning for Nanci~~

When grief pulls her life apart, will she seek a new beginning, or will fear keep her from finding a forever kind of love?

Contemporary Inspirational Military Romance
144 pp.

On the day Nanci discovers she’s going to have a baby, she receives the devastating news every Navy SEAL’s wife never wants to hear. Her husband’s death sends her into the depths of despair. As she struggles to accept, she’s grateful for the support from the officer assigned to her.

Will she turn to God, letting Him show her the path to a new beginning, or will fear of loving and losing keep her locked in the past?

When Lt. Daniel Foster’s appointed to assist a SEAL’s widow, the last thing he expects is a woman who can break through the barricade guarding his heart. As he helps her with the aftermath, he offers her a shoulder to lean on, but would like to offer more.

Should he allow their friendship to blossom and trust God will show him lowering his defenses is the only way to love?

Author’s Note:
As a Navy wife for many years, I know how hard it is to put fears at bay and go on with your life when your loved one is far from home. I want to thank all the military men and women who serve and protect our great country, along with their families who support and love them.
I spent over twenty years in Hampton Roads, Virginia and grew to love the area. I love the ocean and enjoyed its beauty almost every day as I traveled from Hampton to Virginia Beach where I worked. When this story came to me, I had to make Virginia Beach the setting.
What Nanci goes through in A New Beginning for Nanci is what countless military wives have faced since the creation of our nation. What I want to show in this story is that there is always a new beginning out there. We just have to go after it and not allow tragedy to keep us frozen in fear.

There are lessons learned in this love story. Nanci could have easily stayed locked in her grief instead of seeking God’s help. Both she and Daniel were brought up in faith-based homes, but they had drifted away. Fortunately for them, they chose to return to their childhood faith which helped them move forward into God’s light, depending on Him to guide them to a new beginning that will stand the test of time.

While this is definitely an inspirational romance, it does have a couple of scenes with minimal sensual touches and kissing. Nanci and Daniel have a strong physical attraction between them, so it is hard to resist, but never fear, they do not fully give in to temptation.

Excerpt (G): Tragedy Strikes

After setting Tiger on the slate floor, Nanci checked her voice mail on the home phone, but still no call from Bryan. Of course, his mission was a secret, as usual. She had no idea what time zone he was in. It could be the middle of the night for him. After feeding the cat, she settled on the couch with the paperback she’d purchased earlier in the day. Tiger curled beside her, and she became engrossed in the book, especially the part concerning the first trimester of pregnancy.
The doorbell rang.
How odd.
She couldn’t imagine who it could be. Probably some kids selling something.
But a rush of anxiety flooded her system as icy prickles raced along her arms.
The doorbell rang again.
She laid her book down, went to the door, and used the peep hole to look out. Three men in Navy uniforms stood on her front porch.
Her heart caught in her throat.
Three men usually meant bad news, especially naval officers.
No, maybe they have the wrong house. Maybe they’re collecting money for some type of charity.
Anything but what it might mean.
Her body began to shake.
Her knees grew weak.
No, no! She would not allow those terrifying thoughts to enter her consciousness even for a moment.
Nonetheless, her hand trembled as she opened the door. Her voice shook as she said, “Hello. W-what can I d-do for you?”
The older officer removed his cover, tucking it under his arm. “Good afternoon, we’re here to see Mrs. Bryan Bowman.”
“I’m Mrs. Bowman. Please, c-come in.” Terror gripped her as she showed them into the living room.
Her mind screamed—Oh, God, please don’t let Bryan be hurt.
