When Sophie Childress discovers a letter written in 1920 by a maid who thinks she witnessed a murder in the historic village of Marmion Grove, she enlists Noah Pennyman to investigate. Together they uncover a complex web of family ties and lies that persist through three generations. Did a murder occur? If so, who was the victim? What did the killer do with the body—and a carpetbag full of money? A hundred years later two more corpses are unearthed. How will Sophie and Noah sort out the truth from the myriad conflicting motives before whoever is trying to kill Noah succeeds?
